Practising engineers will need to familiarise themselves with the modelling process set out in Chapter 3 and can use the other chapters as a reference source for basic and intermediate levels of structural analysis modelling.

Senior structural engineers who are concerned that inexperienced users of structural analysis software may make errors due to lack of understanding. They should require the formal use of the modelling process set out in Chapter 3. One cannot use this process without a significant amount of understanding of structural behaviour and using the process helps to further develop this understanding.

Teachers who want their students to learn how to do structural analysis in practice. Existing texts on structural analysis contain insufficient information for this purpose. i.e. they tend not address modelling issues.
